RUTHIN

Ruthin History

Ruthin is a small but attractive, friendly and lively town of some 5,000 people set in the beautiful Vale of Clwyd, in a setting overlooked by the hills of the Clwydian range and the Hiraethog Moors.

The town of Ruthin was built on a red sandstone hill as a strategic lookout over the River Clwyd. A town which has over seven hundred years of recorded history, whose streets have been trodden by kings, queens, princes and travellers; its past suffered plague, battle and siege; its buildings reflect the best of architectural styles making the town an outstanding Conservation Area worthy of preservation.

Ruthin has a lively and interesting history - which has provided a rich architectural heritage - and is currently a thriving administrative and service centre for a large rural hinterland. It is the home of the principal offices of the county of Denbighshire, and the meeting place of the County Council. It has financial and business services providing for local needs, and is home to one of the largest cattle and sheep auction markets in Wales.

Mae Rhuthun yn dref fechan ond deniadol, cyfeillgar a bywiog o tua 5,000 o bobl. Mae wedi’i lleoli yn hyfrydwch Dyffryn Clwyd, gyda bryniau Clwyd a Hiraethog yn gwarchod trosti.

Adeiladwyd tref Rhuthun ar fryn tywodfaen coch fel cuddfan strategol dros yr Afon Clwyd. Mae’n dref sydd â dros saith gan mlynedd o hanes ar gof a chadw, ac mae ambell frenin a brenhines, tywysog a theithiwr wedi troedio ei strydoedd. Mae wedi dioddef pla, brwydr a gwarchae, ac mae’i hadeiladau yn adlewyrchu’r arddulliau pensaernïol gorau, gan wneud y dref yn Ardal Gadwraeth amlwg sy’n haeddu cynhaliaeth.

Mae gan Rhuthun hanes diddorol a bywiog - sydd wedi darparu etifeddiaeth bensaernïol gyfoethog, - ac sydd ar hyn o bryd yn ganolbwynt gwasanaeth gweinyddol llewyrchus ar gyfer ardal eang o gefn gwlad. Y mae’n gartref i brif swyddfeydd Sir Ddinbych, ac yn fan cyfarfod i’r cyngor Sir. Mae yma wasanaethau ariannol a busnes yn darparu ar gyfer anghenion lleol, ac mae’n gartref i un o farchnadoedd ocsiwn defaid a gwartheg mwyaf Cymru.
